The NDC Member of Parliament for Juaboso in Eastern North Region and the Parliamentary Candidate for the same Area, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has accused the Electoral Commission of appointing a known NPP Member as EC official ahead of December 7 polls in an attempt to rig the election of the NPP.

According to him, the recent developments in Sefwi Juaboso District are not only disgraceful but an affront to every principle of fairness, transparency, and justice that underpins Ghana’s democracy.

He submitted that “the sudden and unexplained transfer of the District Electoral Officer in this critical period (one month to the 2024 General Elections) is not just suspicious—it is strategic. In his place, a handpicked replacement by Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson of the EC, has taken over and immediately begun appointing known NPP delegates as polling officers”.

Addressing Journalists in his constituency a few minutes ago on the subject,

THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION IS ACTIVELY PLUNGING GHANA INTO ELECTORAL CHAOS STARTING WITH THE INFUSION OF OPENINGLY PARTISAN NPP PARTY OPERATIVES AS POLLING OFFICERS FOR THE JUABOSO CONSTITUENCY, Mr. Mintah Akandoh said ‘this brazen act of partisanship by the very institution tasked with ensuring free and fair elections is a slap in the face of Ghanaians. Some of these polling officers are openly endorsing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his parliamentary candidate”.

“They shamelessly post videos of themselves participating in NPP political rallies and dancing to Bawumia campaign songs”, he mentioned.

He noted that the most shocking is the evidence that some are active members of the NPP parliamentary candidate for Juaboso’s campaign team and are deeply embedded in political WhatsApp platforms with the candidate.

These, he stressed, are not impartial electoral officers—they are political operatives planted to influence the outcomes of the elections.

He again revealed that, during the last voter transfer exercise, they had seen the EC engaging in blatant irregularities, allowing illegal transfers to certain constituencies in a grand scheme of gerrymandering without following the legally mandated process.

“These actions were calculated to tilt the electoral playing field in favor of the NPP.

This pattern of behavior is undeniable: the EC has abandoned its impartiality and is now an active participant in efforts to rig the upcoming elections”.

The MP, accompanied by the constituency executives, has formally petitioned the Electoral Commission to demand the immediate removal of 26 of these politically steered polling officers.

They insisted that these individuals, who have openly demonstrated their bias and partisanship, be removed without delay.
