Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Jean Mensah, has announced that the provisional voters register has been cleaned up and all identified discrepancies have been corrected.
During an engagement with political parties ahead of the 2024 general elections, the EC clarified that the initial discrepancies in the register were widespread, affecting all regions.
The EC also disputed allegations that the discrepancies were intended to disenfranchise voters in specific areas, stating that such claims are untrue.
However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), had expressed concerns over the register’s validity for the 2024 elections, citing detected discrepancies.
The NDC called for a forensic audit of the provisional voters register.
Following a meeting initiated by the NDC to discuss the issues, the party presented the EC with five categories of problems identified in the register.
The EC requested comprehensive data from the NDC, promising to investigate and provide a report within a week.
The electoral body further said they have made significant progress in clearing the Provisional Voter Register (PVR), in the over 40,000 exhibition centres, adding that what they have now is better than what they had in August.
The commission also reiterated its commitment to delivering free and fair elections come December 7, 2024, and offering opportunity to voters to express any discrepancy in the second exhibition.
