Director Responsible for Training at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, has called on Ghanaians to actively support efforts to ensure free and fair elections in 2024.
Speaking at a meeting between the National Security Task Force and representatives from the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) and other industries on November 28, 2024, Dr. Quacoe emphasised the role of every citizen in safeguarding the electoral process.
He urged the public and the media to avoid actions that could undermine the elections and highlighted how individual decisions can have far-reaching consequences.
“Whatever you do can affect the election, and the election can affect your life,” he said.
Dr. Quacoe also assured citizens that the Electoral Commission will do everything within its power to maintain transparency, fairness, and credibility during the elections.
He called on stakeholders, including voters, the media, civil society organisations, and political parties, to contribute to peaceful and credible polls.
He stressed the importance of fact-checking election-related information and urged voters to reject misinformation that could lead to unnecessary tension.
“The elections are critical to our democracy, and everyone has a role to play. As voters, you hold the responsibility to ensure the process is fair and peaceful,” Dr. Quacoe added.
The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between government agencies, industries, and citizens to protect Ghana’s democratic principles and ensure peace.
