EC holds special voting for media and security personnel Today

The Electoral Commission is holding special voting today for the media and security personnel taking part in the referendum on the creation of six new regions.

Chairperson of the Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensah at a media briefing in Accra, said the special voting will allow such personnel to have ample time to do their work on the day of the referendum.

In a separate development, more than four thousand officials have been trained in Districts and Municipalities in the Western Region to assist in the referendum scheduled for Thursday.

The participants comprising presiding and, verification officers, ballot issuers and reference officers will serve all the one thousand and one polling stations in the nine districts and municipalities, to serve as the Western North Region.

The Western Regional Director of the EC, Stephen Opoku Mensah, said additional 29, including two from the region will serve as Returning Officers with three in each of the nine districts, while four of the trainees headed by a presiding officer will be assigned to a polling station.

The EC official disclosed that all materials have been sent to the districts except the ballot papers and the verification device which will arrive before the voters go to the polls.

Mr. Opoku Mensah advised all to cooperate with the Electoral Commission to ensure a successful exercise.
