The Electoral Commission (EC) has held a Thanksgiving Service towards this year’s general election for the first time in its history.
This is in anticipation of peaceful Presidential and Parliamentary elections on December 7. Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Jean Mensah said God is the reason why the Commission has chalked up successes in its operations despite challenges posed by the covid-19 pandemic and strong opposition from a section of the public.
She said it is important that the Commission commits the elections into God’s hands for peace to reign.
Staff of the Commission led by the Chairperson, Mrs Jean Mensa, her two deputies Dr Bossman Asare and Mr. Samuel Tettey who were dressed in all white attire, waved white handkerchiefs and danced to worship songs by the Winneba Youth Choir.
Some security personnel who were on duty could not help but join in the dancing to emphasize the need to pray for a peaceful election.
Prayer Director of Women Aglow, Mrs Gifty Afenyi Dadzi led the prayers to commit the days before, during and after the elections into God’s hands, asking for peace to reign.
Chairperson of the Commission Mrs Jean Mensa recounted some successes chalked up since the EC announced that it would compile a new register to date, despite some challenges.
Deputy chairman of the Commission in Charge of Corporate Affairs Dr. Bossman Asare called on Ghanaians to remember the Commission in prayers.
This year’s election will be the 8th to be held in the 4th republic, all of which has generally been peaceful.
