To promote transparency in its processes, the Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Services, Dr. Bossman Asare says the EC is embarking on an enhancement in the declaration format of the results for the upcoming December 7 election.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express, Dr. Bossman Asare, emphasized that the presidential results will now be declared at all 16 Regional Collation Centers before the final declaration at the National Headquarters of the Electoral Commission.
This new approach aims to enhance transparency and credibility in the electoral process. Dr. Asare emphasized the importance of accuracy, transparency, and adherence to established timelines in the electoral process.
“By convention, we work within 72 hours, and I believe we are going to work within the 72 hours to ensure that Ghanaians know the outcome of the presidential election,” he stated.
The electoral process timeline will unfold as follows: parliamentary election results will be concluded between 12 midnight and 2 am at the Constituency level. These results will then be sent to regional capitals for review, and subsequently, regional officials will forward the results to the EC Headquarters in Accra for the official declaration.
Dr. Asare reassured Ghanaians that the Commission is prepared to deliver timely and credible results, ensuring every step is carefully managed.
Logistical challenges are acknowledged, but systems are in place to manage the process efficiently. This strategic move to balance efficiency with thoroughness follows the 2020 elections, where results were declared within 48 hours, exceeding the initial 24-hour target.
“We will take our time and ensure that every step of the process is carefully managed so that, by the end of three days, the outcome is clear and satisfactory to all stakeholders,” Dr. Asare added, reinforcing the Commission’s commitment to transparency and credibility.
