Economic concerns: Council of State monthly allowance to drop by 20%

President Akufo-Addo has admitted the country is facing economic challenges but he is optimistic that with tough decisions the economy will be back on a sound footing.

Addressing members of the Council of State at the Jubilee House, the President said the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will on Thursday, March 24, announce decisions taken by the government to put the economy back on track.

At the meeting the Chairman of the Council of State, Nana Otuo Sereboe said they have decided to reduce their allowance by 20 % as their widow’s mite to help in the economic recovery process. Bright Ntramah has filed this report.

Economic challenges

This is the first meeting of the Council of State with the President this year. The meeting comes after the government’s retreat which focused on the economy. President Akufo-Addo told his chief advisors that though the economic challenges are global, it does not mean that the government will look on unconcerned.

Chairman of the Council of State, Nana Otuo Sereboe announced that members of the Council have decided to cut their monthly allowance by 20% to help the country to recover from its present economic crisis.
