The Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo-Dampare, has assured that the by-election at the Ejisu Constituency in the Ashanti region, scheduled for April 30, 2024, will be more peaceful than ever.

He made this statement while delivering a speech at the Organised Labour May Day Forum at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Hall in Accra on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

“Ejisu by-election will be more peaceful than ever. We saw the one at Assin and others, but Ejisu will be more peaceful, I assure you.”

According to the Inspector General of Police, necessary security measures to ensure a peaceful by-election are still underway; however, the security agency is building its own capacity to improve the safety of citizens during the pre-election to post-election period.

“Prior to the pre-election period, we are also working to ensure that traditional security responsibility that we have of ensuring peace, of ensuring that there is security on our roads, of ensuring that there is safety in our communities, and also making sure that the police continue to improve their friendship with the public is not left or put aside because of election,” IGP stated.

George Akuffo-Dampare further cautioned perpetrators to be wary of their actions because the Police are more vigilant in executing their work this election year as they adapt new strategies to ensure peace.

“In effect, our eyes in those areas are wide open in connection to the election, so if any bad guy is out there, he should be rest assured that we haven’t gone anywhere, we are where we are and when you show up, you will meet us and when you meet us, you will find your level,” he cautioned.
