A Security Analyst, Adam Bonaa, has called for punitive action against the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, who also serves as Chairman of the Regional Security Council.

Mr. Bonaa was reacting to Mr. Osei Mensah’s appearance before the Commission of Enquiry looking into the deployment of the military to beef up security at Ejura, where two lives were lost.

Mr. Bonaa explained that the military personnel deployed to the area are likely not to be punished because they acted based on their training.

Speaking on GBC’s Uniiq Breakfast Drive, Mr. Bonaa said anytime the military is used against citizens, it usually results in civil unrests, and warned against such practices.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei Mensah has admitted ordering the deployment of soldiers from the 4th Infantry Battalion based in Kumasi to augment their police counterparts to restore order and peace at Ejura on the 29th of June this year.

This, he says, is based on intelligence he gathered as the Chairman of the Regional Security Council, REGSEC.

The Regional Minister explained that he took that unilateral decision in view of the circumstances to avert any possible disaster from what he described as an attack on the Police detail on the ground by the incensed youth.

Mr. Osei Mensah was giving testimony before the Ministerial Committee of Enquiry in Kumasi on Day One of its public hearing.
