The Director-General (DG) of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Prof. Amin Alhassan, has reassured Ghanaians of the nation’s broadcaster’s readiness to live up to its constitutional mandate before, during, and after the upcoming general elections.
Prof. Alhassan, speaking at a GBC stakeholder meeting at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, announced that to leave no stone unturned, the Corporation has already inaugurated its Political Broadcast and Monitoring Committee and is at work to ensure that the entire GBC network of TV, radio, and online resources offer equal access to all political actors.
“The Constitution imposes on GBC a mandate to offer equal airtime to all registered political candidates, be they Parliamentary or Presidential.
Management is committed to delivering on this responsibility. The Political Broadcast and Monitoring Committee has already been inaugurated and is at work to ensure that the entire GBC network of TV, radio, and online resources offer equal access to all political actors,” he reiterated.
According to Prof. Alhassan, for reporters of the GBC to be able to move around the length and breadth of the country, management has enhanced the Corporation’s transport fleet with a recent addition of eight new vehicles.
“We still have a lot to do before Ghanaians go to the polls. We still have augmentation of our studios and procurement of additional production equipment to do. However, we assure Ghanaians of our readiness to live up to our responsibility,” he retorted.
