The Center for Local Government Advocacy is reminding Ghanaians to come out massively and vote for their preferred Candidate during the 2023 District Assembly and Unit Committee elections.

‘’The onus to develop our communities lies on us, and we must endeavour to devote time to fully participate in this all-important national task to elect development-oriented representatives for our electoral areas’’.

This is contained in a statement signed by Gladys Gillian Tetteh, Deputy Executive Director, Center for Local Government Advocacy (CLGA).

CLGA entreats the voting public to eschew apathy, and ‘’actively participate in the District Level Elections, (DLEs).

EC announced at a stakeholder event in Accra, announced that the DLEs will be held in October, but failed to provide a specific date for the event.

Meanwhile, the Centre for Local Governance Advocacy said it was concerned about the general apathy toward issues around the Local Government Elections.

‘’We have followed with keen interest preparations towards the upcoming 2023 District Level Elections and are worried about the increasing general apathy on DLEs.’’

By law, the elections are expected to be held by December 2023. Six months on, CLGA says it is utterly disturbed that the Electoral Commission has not officially released a road map in regard to the District Assembly Elections.

‘’By Law, the elections are to be held latest by December 2023 to elect new District Assembly and Unit Committee members to replace the current members whose mandate by January 2024. We are yet to have any official communication and information from the Electoral Commission regarding the elections,’’ the statement noted.
