An eleven (11)-member Elections Security Task Force has been constituted and inaugurated in Kumasi ahead of the upcoming District Level as well as the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The Kumasi Supervising High Court Judge, Justice Kofi Akrowiah, who inaugurated the Task Force, asked the members to always work within the Constitution and other enactments regulating elections in the country to ensure a fair and level playing field for all.
The Committee, with the eleven (11) members, has the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, CoP Kwasi Mensah Duku, as Chairman with the Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Benjamin Bannoh Bioh, the BNI Commander, Regional Security Coordinator and all Regional Commanders of the Security services as members.
The Committee is also to set up sub committees that will be responsible for the Joint Operations Centre, Personnel Mobilization and Deployment, Ballot Security, Intelligence, Investigation, Legal and Prosecution among other duties.
The Task Force has been constituted and inaugurated at this time to enable them to adequately plan for the upcoming District Level Elections and Referendum in December as well as the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in December next year.
The Kumasi Supervising High Court Judge, Justice Kofi Akrowiah, who took the members through the Official Oath and Oath of Secrecy, reminded them of the legal obligation to create a fair and level playing field for all in their operations.
The Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Benjamin Bannoh Bioh, disclosed that in the region, the local level elections are to be conducted at five thousand, 671 Polling Centres in all one thousand and 87 Electoral Areas for the people to choose Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members.
This presents a huge work load for both the Electoral Commission and the Elections Security Task Force in meeting the requirements of a credible polls.
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, CoP Kwasi Mensah Duku, assured that the Task Force will do its best to improve upon the performances in previous national elections.
