The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), has commenced presidential encounters for Presidential Candidates ahead of the December 7 Elections.

This initiative is receiving support from STAR Ghana Foundation. The first to take its turn is the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

Its flagbearer, Nana Akosua Frimpomaa, shared her ambitious on agricultural policies aimed at transforming Ghana’s farming sector.

Emphasising the CPP’s commitment to farmers during the show on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, she pledged that under her administration, “No farm produce will be a burden to any farmer,” promising government support to secure, transport, and market agricultural goods.

Frimpomaa explained that Ghana’s farmers often face challenges bringing their produce from farms to markets, resulting in high post-harvest losses of over 30%. “Farmers shouldn’t have to worry about their produce rotting,” she said.

She stressed that her administration would ensure that the government purchases farmers’ crops, much like it currently does with cocoa, freeing farmers to focus on planting and harvesting.

A major highlight of her plan involves setting up processing factories across the country. These factories, she proposed, will be owned by communities and citizens, not just private investors. The goal is to give Ghanaians a stake in these industries, which would lead to greater accountability and community-driven growth. “This is governance for the people and by the people,” she said.

Frimpomaa promised that these community-owned factories would help prevent post-harvest waste, empower local communities, and revive Ghana’s manufacturing sector.
