A Deputy Finance Minister-designate, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has hinted that he will support the finance ministry and its revenue collection agencies to leverage technology to increase the country’s revenue mobilisation.

Answering questions from members of the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, February 24, 2025, Mr. Nyarko Ampem emphasised the importance of technological advancements in mobilising funds to finance government operations, stating that they will aggressively pursue revenue mobilisation.

According to him, leveraging technology to increase the country’s revenue mobilisation means improving efficiency in public finance management.

He affirmed their commitment to building upon existing technologies.

“I will work with my minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to use technology to ensure that we rake in more revenue.

We have officials of the GRA who are very experienced in this, and I believe that if we provide them with the right leadership and incentives, we will be able to do this. Without technology, we will not be able to achieve the target we’re setting for ourselves,” he said when he appeared before the committee.

The member of parliament for the Asuogyaman Constituency also stressed continuity in governance.

“We will build on whatever has been done previously. Government is a continual. We will deploy all the infrastructure that has been provided for us to be able to improve. We’re going to aggressively pursue revenue generation. And we will cut expenditure, as for expenditure, we need to constrain it,” the Deputy Finance Minister-designate assured the committee.
