The Vice President of the Ghana Union of Traders GUTA, Clement Boateng is advocating a separate account for the collection of E-levy. In addition, the government must render quarterly accounts on the E-levy and projects it has been used for. This he said is the only way to gain the trust of the public who perceive those taxes are not used for their intended purposes.
Speaking with GBC News, Mr. Boateng said GUTA has always supported the collection of the E-levy as it will widen the tax net. However, the Association is against the 1.50%, saying the percentage is too high.
The Chairman of the Oil and Gas Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and Social Commentator, Kwame Jantuah on the same subject noted that more education is needed to psyche the minds of the public to understand and pay for the E-levy.
Chairman for Policy Initiative for Economic Development, Daniel Anim said though the E-levy will shore up governments revenue, it is not a total game-changer to government financial woes.
