Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has acknowledged that the flagship Free Senior High School (SHS) policy faces significant infrastructure challenges, despite the government’s efforts to develop the education sector.
Speaking to the media in Accra, Dr. Bawumia identified two key areas he wishes to address: infrastructure challenges in Free SHS and the delayed implementation of the Gold for Oil program.
Dr. Bawumia emphasised that, if elected, his next government will prioritise partnering with the private sector to develop infrastructure through Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) agreements.
This collaborative approach, he noted, will enable “the government to leverage private sector resources to increase infrastructure in SHS schools, thereby mitigating the existing challenges”.
