Independent presidential candidate George Twum Barima Adu has announced plans to abolish the Electronic Levy (E-Levy) and replace it with E-Sika.
Taking a turn in the Presidential Encounter at GBC on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Twum Barima unveiled his flagship policy, “Common Prosperity for All,” aimed at empowering Ghanaians financially. The policy draws inspiration from global initiatives focused on reducing income inequality and promoting economic growth.
Under E-Sika, citizens will save a portion of their electronic payments, encouraging financial growth.
E-Sika accounts will be divided into pension, housing, and welfare sections, attached to the Ghana Card.
“Because this money, any time you spend money using mobile or any form of electronic payment, you’ll be deducted. So you spend, you save. When you go home, you can say to yourself, Okay, today I bought, maybe I spent 50 cedis, but you saved. Because that percentage has gone to your own savings account,” he stated.
Twum Barima’s policy focuses on ensuring every Ghanaian can generate prosperity regardless of location, identity, or wealth.
The effectiveness of the policy remains to be seen, but it has sparked interest among Ghanaians seeking economic reform.
