The Deputy General Secretary of National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has accused the former administration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of presiding over what he described as a “crime scene”.
Speaking in an interview on Woezor TV, Mr Gbande alleged that the Akufo-Addo government was involved in organised crimes ranging from tax evasion to other illicit activities.
“Former President Akufo-Addo has left the country as a crime scene. From tax evasion to other organised crimes, his government was involved in a lot,” Mr Gbande claimed.
The Deputy General Secretary in charge of operations at the Presidency attributed the current heightened presence of National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) officers and other national security operatives across the country to the need to address what he described as deep-rooted criminal activities inherited from the previous administration.
Mr Gbande also argued that there are two types of people in society — those who abide by the law and those who do not. He maintained that individuals who commit crimes have no authority to dictate how they should be treated under the law.
The NDC official gave assurances that President John Dramani Mahama’s government would take decisive action against corruption and criminality, stating that no one would be shielded from accountability.
“My government will not cover up any crimes. We will fight crime head-on. And when that fight begins, the signs will be clear — and that is exactly what we are seeing now,” he said.
