Government to commence work on 88 out of 111 district hospitals

Government will on Tuesday commence work on 88 out of the 111 district hospitals across the country.

The commencement of the projects which will be done simultaneously in all the 88 districts, is part of government’s AGENDA 111 which has the object of building district hospitals.

Funding of $100 million has been made available for the construction of the hospitals.

Each district hospital is estimated to cost $17 million. In addition to these hospitals, two specialised hospitals will be constructed for the middle and northern belts.

President Akufo-Addo announced the construction of these district hospitals in his 8th Covid-19 update to the nation last year.

Speaking at a media briefing in Accra, Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah said the construction of the hospitals has a 12-months delivery from the day of commencement.

Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah announced that President Akufo-Addo will on Tuesday perform the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of one of the district hospitals at Trede in the Ashanti Region, which will kick start work for all the other district hospitals across the country.

Mr.Oppong Nkrumah noted that preference has been given to Ghanaian contractors, adding that the construction will enhance healthcare delivery in the country.
