Felix Kwakye Ofosu , Minister- Designate of State for Communication and spokesperson of the president has asserted that, the government is set to restructure key media agencies under the Ministry of Information to enhance efficiency and competitiveness.
The affected institutions include the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), and the Information Services Department (ISD).
Speaking during his vetting before the Appointments Committee, Felix Kwakye Ofosu revealed the government’s plan to merge the Ghana News Agency (GNA) with the Information Services Department (ISD) as part of efforts to modernize their operations and improve service delivery.
According to him, the president envisions merging the Ghana News Agency with the Information Services Department and rebranding them to align with the digital era. He mentioned that, In the past, issuing a press statement involved lengthy processes, but today, a single post on social media can reach millions instantly.
“We must adapt to these changes to remain effective,” he stated.
Additionally, he noted that the Ghana Publishing Company, which has been overtaken by private competitors, will undergo major reforms to make it more competitive and capable of generating significant revenue.
The Minister also highlighted the financial restructuring of GBC and the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL).
He said, although both institutions operate under the National Media Commission (NMC), their budgets are still processed through the Ministry of Information. The restructuring aims to improve budgetary efficiency and ensure financial sustainability for these institutions.
This move aligns with the government’s broader media reform agenda, which seeks to modernize state-owned media houses, enhance their credibility, and ensure they remain adaptable to the fast-changing media landscape.
