Senior Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, has refuted claims that containers linked to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are missing. Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, he stressed that these containers are traceable and those involved must be held accountable.
He emphasized that in a properly functioning state, individuals connected to the disappearance would face interrogation or jail time. He stated, “If we are not an anarchic state, someone has information about where the containers are. That person should be made to answer, whether in office or out of office.”
He further revealed that some of the containers had been located, with their contents—including wires—hidden under car rims. “The police were able to find a dead body under concrete in this country. These containers can be tracked,” he said confidently.
Kofi Bentil also pointed to systemic failures during political transitions as a contributing factor to the issue. He alleged that during such periods, there were instances of “grabbing,” leading to the disappearance of critical items like the ECG containers. He remarked, “That truck came through a port, police barriers, and state systems. If these systems work, such things cannot happen.”
Calling for accountability, Kofi Bentil insisted that tracing the containers is achievable with minimal effort. “The containers were in someone’s custody at a particular point. Whoever was in charge at that point should answer questions,” he concluded.
