The Attorney-General,Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has dropped all charges against former Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Director-General, Dr. Ernest Thompson, and three others, bringing an end to a long-running legal case.

The case, which involved allegations of financial impropriety, was officially discontinued in the High Court (Criminal Division) in Accra. According to court documents, the state withdrew the case against Dr. Thompson, John Hagan Mensah, and Peter Hayibor.

A notice signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa, cited sections of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960, as the legal basis for the decision.

This marks the end of a legal battle that began under the previous government, where the accused were charged with causing financial losses to the state. With the charges dropped, Dr. Thompson and his co-accused are now cleared of any wrongdoing.

Their legal representatives, including Samuel Codjoe, Anis Moghtar Mohayideen, and D.K. Ameley, have been informed of the Attorney-General’s decision.
