President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to enhancing the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme, pledging to address its challenges and improve educational outcomes.
Speaking during his ‘Thank You Tour’ in the Central Region on Thursday, February 6, 2025, Mr. Mahama underscored education as a key priority. He outlined plans to strengthen the Free SHS policy by securing dedicated funding and decentralizing food procurement to ensure more efficient management.

“Education will remain a priority and we will work to provide the best possible learning environment for our children at all levels.
And ensure that our youth have the skills needed to compete in the global economy. We plan to improve the Free SHS programme to secure dedicated funding and decentralised food procurement.”

Additionally, President Mahama announced plans to introduce a “no academic fees” policy to provide financial support for continuing students. He also pledged to expand infrastructure in tertiary institutions to accommodate the increasing student population.
