President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a seven-member committee to oversee the planning of the National Economic Dialogue (NED). This initiative is part of his 120-day social contract with Ghanaians, aimed at addressing pressing economic challenges and fostering dialogue among stakeholders.

The committee is chaired by renowned economist Dr. Ishmael Yamson and includes distinguished members such as Dr. K.Y. Amoako, Professor John Gatsi, Mohammed Samara, Nelly Mireku, Anthony Sarpong, and Ernest De-Graft Egyir.

The NED seeks to provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss critical issues, including fiscal consolidation, structural reforms, and strategies to build a resilient economy. The government has outlined three key objectives for the dialogue:
• Communicating the state of Ghana’s economy.
• Developing a homegrown fiscal strategy for the national budget.
• Highlighting structural reforms and policies needed for economic recovery.

The planning committee has four weeks to finalize an agenda, coordinate speakers, manage logistics, facilitate discussions, and prepare a detailed report with recommendations. A robust communication strategy will also be implemented to ensure public engagement.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive governance and economic transformation.
