President John Dramani Mahama has named a former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority, Mr. Sylvester Adinam Mensah as the new Acting CEO of the Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM).
According to a release announcing his appointment, Mr. Mensah’s new role is to spearhead the Bank’s mission to support the government’s drive for a sustainable export-led economy, as mandated by the Ghana Export-Import Bank Act 2016 (Act 991).
His responsibilities, it said will include facilitating Ghana’s transformation economy into an export-driven one by enhancing trade between Ghana and other nations, supporting overseas investments by Ghanaian businesses, and addressing critical market inefficiencies to bolster the country’s global competitiveness.
Mr. Mensah brings a wealth of experience to the position as an accomplished finance professional and seasoned public servant.
His expertise spans public sector banking, fund management, strategic financial management, and governance.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Business Consulting (FIBC), UK, and a Certified Strategy Professional, he has a proven record of delivering innovative financial solutions and strategies.
Mr. Mensah had previously served as the Head of Public Sector Banking at Intercontinental Bank (Ghana) Ltd., where he developed credit risk frameworks and provided strategic investment advisory services to public sector clients.
He also represented the people of La Dadekotopon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region as a Member of Parliament and later served as Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), where he successfully reformed and expanded the scheme to enhance efficiency.
Currently, he is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), and an Adjunct Lecturer at the Nobel International Business School, contributing to the Certified Strategy Professional (CSP) program.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Ghana Business School and an MBA in Finance from the University of Leicester, UK, alongside several diplomas and certifications from prestigious institutions worldwide.
With over 20 years of experience in corporate strategy, strategic management, and execution, Mr. Mensah is well-equipped to lead GEXIM in driving Ghana’s export agenda and fostering economic transformation.
