Vice President, Mahamadu Bawumia has reiterated government’s commitment to support the development of Zongo communities and impact positively on the lives of people there.
This he noted is the purpose for the establishment of the Ministry of Inner Cities and Zongo Development.
He was speaking at Nkawkaw Zongo in the Eastern Region, as part of his tour of some Muslim communities in the region. Dr. Bawumia said government’s implementation of the Free SHS and Nation Builders Corps, (NABCO) policies as well as the reduction in electricity tariffs, have brought relief to people in Zongo.
He said government must be commended for the fifty percent reduction on import duties, which will eventually lead to reduction in prices of goods.
At the Ofoase Zongo in the Ofoase/Ayirebi Constituency, Dr. Bawumia said government is fulfilling its promises and asked for patience, as all communities will have their fair share of the national cake. He urged them to be peaceful and live in harmony with people from other religious faiths.
The Vice President underscored the importance of education and encouraged parents to take advantage of the free SHS policy and enrol their wards.
He presented bags of rice and sugar to both communities.
The Minister for Inner Cities and Zongo Development, Dr Mustapha Hamid said government has employed the services of about three thousand Arabic teachers in all parts of the country to aid in the teaching and learning of the language.
