The flagbearer of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Mr. Christian Kwabena Andrews, has pledged to create more jobs for Ghanaians if elected President in the 2024 general election. Unemployment is one of the top three concerns of Ghanaians, as highlighted in the 2024 Afrobarometer report.
Speaking on the Presidential Encounter show on GTV with George Sarpor, Mr. Andrews assured citizens that his administration would prioritise reviving abandoned industries and factories across the country. He specifically mentioned plans to revitalise the Kumasi Shoe Factory, Ceramic Factory, and others to generate employment. He added that each factory would have a school attached to train people in relevant skills to enhance productivity.
Mr. Andrews criticised the two dominant political parties for failing to deliver on their promises of job creation, urging Ghanaians to vote for change. “They only beg for your mandate, and once you give it to them, they go there to enjoy themselves,” he remarked.
He also outlined plans to recruit experts to train Ghanaians in processing raw materials such as gold, silver, bauxite, and diamonds into finished products for export. This, he said, would help boost the economy and eliminate the practice of exporting raw materials at low prices.
Mr. Andrews concluded by urging parents to educate first-time voters about the hardships caused by the two major political parties over the years. He encouraged voters to make a better choice by electing him as president in the 2024 elections, or else the country would collapse.
