There was a near trade of blows between Members of Parliament (MPs) for Assin Central in the Central region, Kennedy Agyapong, and Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro, in the Greater Accra region, Mr. Sylvester Tetteh, on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

Tensions flared between the two MPs as a seemingly routine exchange of pleasantries took a dramatic turn, leaving colleague MPs as well as visitors and personals in galleries confused.

The incident occurred when Sylvester Tetteh, the MP for Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro, attempted to extend greetings to Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central, upon the latter’s entrance into the chamber.

Mr Agyapong, after the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries, has become unfriendly with most of his colleagues who openly campaigned against him, visibly displeased with Tetteh’s attempt at a friendly interaction.

The Assin Central lawmaker, known for his outspoken demeanour, was seen verbally berating Mr. Tetteh and emphatically instructing him to move away from his sight.

The unexpected confrontation took many by surprise as the exchange escalated in intensity.

But for the timely intervention of the Deputy Majority Leader and MP for Effutu, Mr. Alexander Kwamina Afenyo Markin, the situation would spiral into a full-blown brawl.

The Effutu MP guided the Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro MP away from Mr. Agyapong, maintaining order in the chamber.

The incident has sparked discussions among parliamentary observers, with many questioning the root cause of the heated exchange between the two MPs.

Information gathered so far concerning the near urtication between the two lawmakers has it that the MP for Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro owes Mr. Agyepong some amount of money, which the Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro lawmaker has refused to pay.

Stay tuned for more updates.
