The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has called for the establishment of anti-corruption courts to prosecute persons suspected to have engaged in corruption and corruption-related cases if the country is serious about fighting the menace.

He has also dismissed calls for the scraping of his outfit, stating that these calls are unfounded and lack evidence of his office’s performance.

The Special Prosecutor was speaking at a 2023 Corruption Perception Index roundtable, where he expressed disappointment in Ghana’s corruption score of 43, which has remained unchanged since 2020.

Ghana ranked 70th out of 180 countries and territories included in the 2023 Corruption Perception Index (CPI), released by Transparency International.

This marks the fourth consecutive year of stagnation in Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts, as indicated by the CPI.

Mr Kissi Agyebeng said the Office of the Special Prosecutor and other anti-corruption law enforcement institutions should be entrenched in the Constitution.
