The mortal remains of the late MP for Kumawu, Mr. Philip Basoah, have been laid to rest at his hometown of Kumawu in the Ashanti region.
Among the large crowd of mourners who paid their last respects to the late legislator were President Akufo-Addo, his Vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Chief of Staff, Mrs. Akosua Fremah Osei Opare.
The late Mr. Philip Atta Basoah was born 53 years ago, among eight others to the late Opanin Kwame Basoah and Maame Yaa Mansah.
He had his formal basic education at the Kumawu Anglican school and attended the Tweneboah Kodua Secondary school before pursuing Bachelor of Education at the University of Cape Coast and later obtained an Executive Masters in Business Administration with Human Resource as his major.
Before venturing into active partisan politics, the late Mr. Atta Basoah worked with the Ghana Education Service as a Coordinator. In politics, he served as the District Chief Executive for the then Sekeyere Kumawu district which was later separated into the existing Sekyere East and Kumawu district.
The late Atta Basoah entered into Ghana’s Parliament in 2013, representing the people of Kumawu which was created in 2012.
He was serving his 3rd consecutive term when he passed away on 27th March, this year, after a short illness.
While in Parliament, the late Kumawu MP served on many different Committees including those of Social Welfare and State Enterprises of which he was the Chairman at the time of his death, as well as the Public Accounts Committee.
A large crowd of mourners and well-wishers from across the country were at Kumawu in the Ashanti region to pay their last respect to the late MP before his interment.
The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, led a government delegation that included the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Mrs. Akosua Fremah Osei Opare, to file past the mortal remains and also took part in the pre-burial service.
The delegation from Parliament was headed by the 2nd Deputy Speaker, Andrews Asiamah with the Minority Leader, Casiel Atoh Forson, and others from the Minority Caucus also in attendance.
Mr. Stephen Ayensu Ntim led a representation of the ruling New Patriotic Party’s delegation which included national, regional and constituency functionaries who presented to the family their traditional parting gifts in respect to their departed member.
Tributes were read by the Family, Widow, Children, and Parliament.
They all described the late Philip Basoah as kind-hearted, loving, caring, had a fellow feeling, analytical and hard working.
President Akufo-Addo then joined the large crowd of mourners and sympathizers at the funeral rite.
The late Philip Atta Basoah was a Christian and worshipped with the Liberation Christian Centre. He left behind a wife, Mrs. Mary Basoah, and four children.
