Former Volta Regional Minister Dr. Archibald Letsa has revealed that he never expected to become the longest-serving Minister of the region, stating that his greatest achievement was leaving the Volta Region peaceful.
According to Dr. Letsa, he had no idea he would one day hold political office, as his family did not want him involved in politics.
Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show, he recounted how many people told him he was “a good man in the wrong party”.
He further revealed that the 2016 campaign was a positive experience, with the entire party coming together in unity.
“In campaigning, I learned that what you say in town A should be different from town B, because all politics is local,” he said.
Reflecting on his time in office, the former Minister admitted that the Nkonya-Alavanyo conflict and the Western Togoland issue caused him significant stress. He also pointed to security concerns along the Eastern Border, particularly due to terrorist threats in neighboring Togo, as major challenges during his tenure.
“We were actually overwhelmed by the Volta Dam spillage in 2023, but I’m grateful for one thing: we did not lose a single life,” Dr. Letsa noted.
He recalled being left to visit affected communities alone during the dam spillage incident, as both the President and Vice President were out of town at the time.
Dr. Letsa also expressed pride in the tourism promotion efforts made during his tenure and advised the current Regional Minister to prioritise maintaining peace in the region.
