President-elect John Dramani Mahama has officially asked the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership in Parliament to nominate Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

This decision, made after consultations with NDC leadership, highlights Bagbin’s long-standing contributions to Parliament.

Bagbin has previously served as an MP for Nadwoli, held roles as both Minority and Majority Leader, and most recently served as Speaker of the 8th Parliament.

President-elect Mahama expressed confidence in Bagbin’s experience and leadership, believing he will enhance Parliament’s role in strengthening Ghana’s democracy and legislative progress.

This nomination demonstrates the NDC’s commitment to effective parliamentary governance during this crucial period.

The announcement was made in an official statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Special Aide to the President-elect, on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
