National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama has justified his party’s decision to protest against the Electoral Commission (EC) over concerns about the accuracy of the voters’ register.
The NDC fears that a flawed register could compromise the fairness of the December 7 elections.
During a community engagement in Greater Accra, Mahama emphasized that the NDC’s actions aim to safeguard the electoral process’s integrity.
He stressed that a credible and transparent voters’ register is vital for ensuring free and fair elections in 2024.
Mahama urged Ghanaians to support the NDC’s push for reforms, highlighting the importance of an accurate register in protecting the democratic process. He warned that discrepancies in the register could erode voter trust and jeopardize the election’s outcome.
By advocating for a thorough review of the voters’ register, Mahama reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to a peaceful and credible electoral process, which he believes will strengthen Ghana’s democracy.
Mahama clarified that the NDC’s issues with the EC are not personal, but rather a desire for a peaceful and fair electoral process.
He explained that the party’s protests and demonstrations, including one scheduled for September 17, aim to pressure the EC to ensure a trustworthy electoral process.
