Mahama files motion to correct errors in election petition

The Supreme Court has fixed the 14th of January, 2021, to hear the motion filed by former President John Dramani Mahama to allow him correct a mistake in the election petition he filed at the apex court.

Mr. Mahama is contesting the outcome of the just-ended December 7, presidential election.

On the 30th of last month, lawyers of Former President and flagbearer of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, filed an election petition at the Supreme Court, to challenge the result of the December 7, 2020, Presidential Election, which declared President Akufo-Addo winner.

In the petition, the first respondent was the Electoral Commission (EC), and the second respondent being President  Akufo-Addo.

In one of the reliefs, that is relief (f) the former President, is seeking an order by the Court for a re-run of the election between him Mr. Mahama and the first respondent, which is the Electoral Commission as captured in the petition.

Relief (f) is seeking an order of mandatory injunction directing the first respondent to proceed to conduct a second election with petitioner and first respondent as the candidates as required under Articles 63(4) and (5) of the 1992 Constitution.

Former President John Dramani Mahama, is claiming fraud in the December 2020 polls and has said he is unable to accept the result, for which reason he has filed the petition at the Apex Court.
