President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine to immediately investigate the findings of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee.

“I have instructed the Attorney General to commence investigations into the findings of the ORAL committee without delay. The committee officially presented its report on Monday, and I expect the Attorney General to get to work,” President Mahama stated in a post on his official Twitter page.

The ORAL Committee, established by the president as part of his anti-corruption drive, was tasked with uncovering instances of misappropriation of public funds. The report, presented on Monday, details 2,417 complaints, with cases spanning sectors such as public procurement, state infrastructure projects, and COVID-19 expenditure.

In its initial 24 hours of operation, the committee received over 400 corruption-related reports, reflecting significant public engagement. The final report includes 1,493 submissions via a toll-free line and an additional 924 received by email.

President Mahama commended the ORAL team for their efforts and reiterated his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption. “Ghana must no longer be a haven for corrupt practices,” he said, assuring that funds recovered would be reinvested in national development.

The committee, chaired by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, includes former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo, retired Commissioner of Police Nathaniel Kofi Boakye, private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, and investigative journalist Raymond Archer. The team has vowed to handle all reports with discretion and urgency.

With the Attorney General now tasked with investigating the findings, the nation awaits the next steps in what could be a defining moment in Ghana’s fight against corruption.
