In the lead-up to Ghana’s December 7th election, NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama has pledged to counter any attempts to compromise the election’s integrity, particularly through ballot stuffing and other manipulations.
Addressing party faithful at Sanarigu in the Northern Region as part of his Resetting Ghana Campaign tour, Mr. Mahama recalled incidents during the 2020 election, alleging that unauthorized ballot papers were printed after official agents had signed off on the ballots and departed from the printing press.
These ballots, he claims, ended up with New Patriotic Party (NPP) operatives on election day, with incidents reported to the police but no action taken.
“We are going to make sure that this election is transparent and fair,” Mahama affirmed, stressing the NDC’s vigilance this time around.
He added that recent confrontations, including an alleged attempt by an NPP affiliate to assault an NDC election supervisor at a printing house, highlight the party’s heightened readiness to resist any potential electoral interference.
Mr. Mahama’s remarks underline the NDC’s commitment to safeguarding the democratic process and ensuring a credible outcome for the 2024 polls.
