Majority Leader Condemns “Daughter of a Murderer” Remark, Promises Stern Action

 Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga addressed a controversial remark made by a member of the Minority, who referred to one of his colleagues as the “daughter of a murderer.” In a recent interview on GTV’s breakfast show on February 5,2025.

The Majority Leader confirmed that he had received reports about the incident while en route to the studio, stating, “Actually on my way to the studio, I got a call from somebody, reporting that incident to me and actually sending me a video of it, but I haven’t been able to watch the clip yet”.  He emphasized the seriousness of the matter, asserting that it would be thoroughly investigated: “We will investigate it and take a very stern action on it”.

This incident highlights ongoing tensions within Ghana’s political landscape, particularly between the Majority and Minority parties. Hon. Ayariga’s comments reflect a commitment to maintaining decorum in parliamentary discourse, as he acknowledged the need for accountability in political rhetoric. He expressed his intention to ensure that such derogatory remarks do not go unchecked, reinforcing the importance of respect among lawmakers.
