Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has disclosed that most graduates of the recent BECE refused to select the ‘Community Day Senior High Schools’ popularly referred to as ‘E-Blocks’ constructed by the immediate past government, because, they complained some of them are located far away from their residence.

Besides, a lot of the graduates also wanted to be in boarding facilities.

Dr. Prempeh said some of the schools are located about 10 kilometres away from the closest town. This means students have to cover some distances before accessing them.

As a result, the Minister said government is upgrading some of these Community SHS to include boarding facilities to help absorb the chunk of students.

The Minister made these disclosures as he continued to address fallout from the Computerised School Selection Placement System in Accra.

His comments also come in the wake of a recent accusation by former President John Mahama that the Community Day Schools have been abandoned by government.

This year has witnessed chaotic scenes relative to admissions into senior high schools following what the Ghana Education Service described as a breach of the self-placement module.
