The Ahafo Regional Women’s Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says its battle is ready to grab all the six parliamentary seats within the region come December 7, 2024.

The group has thus constituted a Regional Working Committee to ensure that no stone is left unturned in order to hit its target of winning all six parliamentary seats come the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

“Operation 6/6” was declared during the inauguration of the Regional Working Committee coincided with the maiden Regional Women Conference which was held at the Ahafo regional capital, Goaso.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with GBCGHANAONLINE’s Franklin ASARE-DONKOH after the event, the Ahafo Regional Women’s Organiser, Mrs. Charity Gardiner, explained that the rationale behind the Regional Women Conference was to afford constituency, and branch women organisers as well as young women in the region to understand themselves and the role of women in politics better.

“Gone were the days when most women shy away from politics, but in modern-day politics, women have a very important role and higher stakes in what goes on around them.

Who does proper mobilization than women? Our traditional home settings have taught us that women make a home, and have better organisational and lobbying skills and I believe with our huge numbers, we can make a positive impact in our immediate communities, region, and the nation as a whole when we see ourselves as partners.

The NDC currently has just two out of the six parliamentary seats and the Women’s Wing under my leadership with support from my deputies and all constituency and branch women organisers, I can emphatically say we are poised for victory in both presidential and parliamentary.

Our tagline is “Operation 6/6″ and trust me with all hands on deck, we are poised to win all the six seats at stake come December 7, 2024.” She reiterated.

The theme for the conference was enhancing women’s participation in politics and leadership.

Speaking on the topic, “Women participation in politics and leadership role”, the 2020 Running Mate of the NDC, who was also the special guest of Honour for the occasion, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, admonished participants to remain steadfast in their decision to enter into politics.

She explained that the path they have chosen is not smooth and is not going to be smooth anytime soon, but with determination, perseverance, and steadfastness they will thrive no matter the outcome.

“My sisters, as women in politics, people will say all the negative things about you, sometimes in a very derogatory manner but let that boost your confidence and growth in your chosen path than to get you destructed,” Prof. Opoku Agyeman added.

The 2020 NDC Running Mate, again encouraged the women to unite and work as a team, to ensure a resounding victory for the NDC come 7, December, 2024.

“We are all witnesses to the destruction the New Patriotic Party-led administration has done to our economy, education, health, and agriculture, so we all need to come together and work harder than we did in the 2020 general elections to secure a resounding victory for the NDC.” She retorted.

On his part, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asutifi South Constituency, Ahafo Region, Alhaji Collins Dauda, commended the leadership of the regional women’s wing for organizing the conference.

He also appealed to participants to let their actions and inactions draw more people into the fold of the NDC and not act in a manner that drives away people.

Members of the Ahafo Regional Working Committee were ushered into office by the National Women’s Organizer of NDC, Dr Louisa Hannah Bissiw.
