The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal to challenge a recent ruling by the Accra High Court regarding disputed election results in four constituencies.
On January 4, 2025, the High Court ordered the Electoral Commission (EC), to complete the collation of results for Tema Central, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Techiman South by January 6, 2025. This order followed legal action by candidates from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who sought clarity and finality on the results.
Justice Forson Agyapong, who presided over the case, explained that for a mandamus application to succeed, the applicants must prove that a public duty exists, a demand for its performance was made and refused, and that they suffered significant harm as a result.
The court also directed the Inspector General of Police to provide armed security during the collation process to ensure peace and safety.
However, the NDC expressed dissatisfaction with the court’s ruling and swiftly filed an appeal, challenging decisions made on both January 1 and January 4, 2025.
The appeal highlights the NDC’s concerns about the legal and practical implications of the court’s orders on the affected constituencies.
