The NDC is demanding the immediate withdrawal of the reversal of the benchmark value discounts on imported goods. The party said the decision by government to reverse benchmark value and impose new taxes on the already burdened Ghanaians is cruel as it will adversely affect the living standard of Ghanaians.

Addressing journalists in Accra, Director of Communications of the NDC Sammy Gyamfi said citizens must unite irrespective of political affiliation to resist the inhumane policies of the Akufo-Addo led administration.

”The NPP administration has failed on its promises of moving the country from taxation to production”, Mr. Gyamfi posited.

He described the government’s constant attribution of its failures to the Covid-19 pandemic as unfortunate. This is because government was able to exceed its revenue target for the year 2020.

The reversal of benchmark value discounts on imported goods as stated in the 2022 Budget is expected to take off from January 6, 2022.

The NDC said this will adversely increase prices of goods by 30 to 50 % and bring hardship to the populace.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, this is a clear manifestation of the insensitive of the Akufo-Addo led government to the plight of Ghanaians.

”More worrying is the government’s attribution to bad policies”, Mr. Gyamfi noted.
