The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is demanding a refund of filing fees paid by its 2020 presidential candidate, John Mahama ahead of the December 7, elections.

The party is also asking the Electoral Commission to refund filing fees for the party’s 269 parliamentary candidates.

In a letter to the Electoral Commission signed by its General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the party cited regulations 46 (1) and 46 (3) of C.I. 127 which spells out conditions for a refund or forfeiture of deposits made by a presidential or parliamentary candidate.

It states that a presidential candidate must obtain a minimum of 25 percent whiles a parliamentary candidate must obtain 12.5 percent of votes in a general election to qualify for a refund.

The NDC said the decision was taken by the Functional Executive Committee of the party. According to the NDC, all parliamentary candidates passed the threshold.

The party requested the EC to deposit the money into the its account with GCB Bank.
