The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to hold nationwide demonstrations on September 17, 2024, in response to concerns over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) handling of discrepancies in the voter register.

These concerns emerged during the recent voter exhibition exercise, where the NDC identified several alleged irregularities in the register. After a meeting with the EC to discuss the matter, the party’s request for a forensic audit was denied.

Speaking after submitting the presidential nomination forms for John Mahama, NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia revealed the party’s plans for the protest.

On the day of the protest, demonstrators will march to the EC’s regional offices in all 16 regional capitals while the national leadership will deliver a formal petition at the EC’s headquarters in Accra.

“As part of the nationwide demonstration on September 17, we will target electoral commission offices in all regional capitals,” Asiedu Nketia said. “In Accra, we will present a formal petition to the headquarters, calling on the EC to act in a way that guarantees a peaceful, free, and fair election.”
