The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has written to Ghana’s electoral management body, the Electoral Commission (EC), for detailed information on the upcoming limited voter registration exercise as stipulated by law.
The EC has scheduled Tuesday, September 12, 2023, for the start of the exercise at its district offices.
The exercise, which is expected to end on Monday, October 2, 2023, will be conducted from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.
However, the opposition NDC is requesting more information on the exercise, as its General Secretary, Mr. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has officially written to the Commission.
This was disclosed by the party’s 2024 flagbearer, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, in a Facebook Live address on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
He said the party wants to know when pictures of all registration officials will be made available.
“As has been requested in a formal letter to the Commission by the General Secretary of the NDC, we want to know when the names and pictures of the registration supervisors, registration officers, registration assistants, and other officials for the exercise would be published at the district level as stipulated by the EC regulation,” the former President disclosed.
He said other information requested includes the exact number and distribution of work stations, registration kits, and other logistics to be used in the exercise.
NDC officials have been charged with suspending all activities to ensure that eligible voters partake in the exercise.
