A Ghanaian Businessman and Sports Administrator who once served as the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in The Ashanti Region between 2013 and 2016 in the NDC regime, Kojo Bonsu has indicated his readiness to pick forms and contest the party’s Presidential race for the 2024 Presidential Elections.
Mr. Bonsu who made the declaration exclusively with gbcghanaonline.com via WhatsApp chats said, “why not”, when asked “will you pick forms”, just a few hours after when the NDC at its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting released a proposed time table for Presidential Elections also known as Presidential Primaries.
The proposed presidential primary schedule stated that nominations would be accepted from Monday, February 22 to Thursday, February 24, 2023, and that forms would be accepted from Monday, March 20 to Friday, March 22, 2023.
The NEC has set Monday, March 27th through March 29th, 2023 as the date for vetting the successful applicant, and an appeals committee will meet from March 30th through April 6th, 2023, to address any grievances.NEC sets Saturday 6th May 2023 for the Presidential Primaries to elect the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 General Elections.
Apart from the confirmed rumour that former President John Dramani Mahama will run again, it is clear from Accra’s streets that Offinso man is also in the race, as he washed the national capital with colourful posters and a huge billboard mounted in around the Osu, near Accra Sports Stadium, with the inscriptions: “Ready to lead, ready to serve.”
Ahead of the 2020 elections, in September 2018 towards the National Democratic Congress’ Presidential primaries, he declared his intention to contest as the Party’s President flagbearer ship role. In December 2018, he announced his decision to drop out of the race for the role and threw his support behind whoever would emerge winner at the end of the primaries.
Mr. Kojo Bonsu is a native of Offinso a town in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He had his Ordinary Level education at the Tamale Secondary School, between 1974 and 1979.
In 1981, Bonsu then moved to the Drayton School in London, England where he acquired his Advanced Level Certificate. Between 1985 and 1990, when Bonsu joined giant sports kit manufacturer, Adidas, he enrolled in their football Business Unit at Herzogenaurach, Germany, and in the process obtained a Diploma in Sports Business and Marketing.
Bonsu served as a Board Member for Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) from July 2009 to April 2015. He also became Acting Managing Director of the company after their long-serving Managing Director Yaw Agyemang-Duah retired after serving with the company for 16 years.
He served as Managing Director from July 2011 to February 2012.
In October 2015, He was acknowledged and honored by the company for playing a key role in the company’s rebranding process.
