Suspension of NDC Northern Regional Vice Chairman, Alhaji Gbewaa; Disciplinary Committee to adjudicate

The Functional National Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has suspended the membership of its Northern Regional Vice Chairman, Alhaji Hamid Gbewaa. 

The suspension has been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for adjudication. 

A statement signed by the General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, notified Alhaji Gbewaa of his suspension pending the hearing and final determination of the assault of the Northern Regional Treasurer of the party.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Abdul Hamid, popularly known as Alhaji Gbewaa, has been charged with assault by the Tamale District Court.  The Court granted him bail with two sureties and requested him to pay a sum of 50 thousand Cedis at the hearing yesterday. 

Alhaji Gbewaa was picked up by the Northern Regional Police Command for allegedly assaulting the Northern Regional Treasurer of the NDC, Hajia Shemima Yakubu. 

The arrest of the First Vice Chairman did not sit well with some NDC supporters, who took to the streets to demand his immediate release. The group, wearing red armbands, amidst chanting and drumming at the premises of the Northern Regional Secretariat, locked up the office in solidarity with Alhaji Gbewaa.

Meanwhile, Correspondent Joyce Kantam Kolamong reports that Alhaji Abdul Hamid, popularly known as Alhaji Gbewaa, has been charged with assault by the Tamale District Court.  

The Court granted him bail with two sureties and requested him to pay a sum of 50 thousand Cedis at the hearing on January 18, 2024.
