NDC threatens to storm EC over delayed release of provisional voter’s register

NDC to hold nationwide protest over voter register 'irregularities'on Sept 17 - Asiedu Nketia

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has threatened to take action against the Electoral Commission (EC) over the delayed release of the provisional voter’s register for the upcoming December elections.

The NDC had previously demanded that the EC promptly release the provisional register ahead of the planned exhibition exercise.

The party stated that the EC had promised to deliver the register to political parties by Friday, August 16, 2024. However, when party representatives visited the EC office on the scheduled date, they were turned away.

In an interview with Citi News, the NDC’s Deputy IT Director, Rashid Tanko Computer, expressed frustration over the delay and hinted at mobilizing Ghanaians to protest at the EC office if the register is not released soon.

We went there only to be told that the register was not ready and that anytime they were ready they would call us, this is grossly unfair.

“Meanwhile, we have intelligence that they have already printed the 2024 register that includes the 2023 register. And they are adding the mop-up ones for the regions. So, what is stopping them from giving us the register?

“This is what we don’t understand. We’re calling on the general public to be on the EC to release the register now. We have just four days to the exhibition and you cannot release the register to a major political party like the NDC.

“That is why we’re calling on the general public. If the EC doesn’t give us the register we will storm there, they must give us the register, it’s within the law, the C.I.,” Rashid Tanko Computer said.
