The Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress says the decision by the Electoral Commission to solely use Ghana Card for the voters’ registration exercise will disenfranchise many Ghanaians from voting in the 2024 general election.

Addressing the media at the party’s Headquarters in Adabraka, the National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said what the new CI seeks to do is radically change the current regime of providing identity for registration purposes. ”This is why the NDC will use every means legally to stop the EC from that move”.

The Electoral Commission says the use of the Ghana Card as the only source of identification for the continuous voters’ ”is the surest way to rid the electoral register of minors and foreigners”.

This decision that the NDC does not agree with the EC. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo is the Chairman of the part.

According to Ofosu Ampofo, what the EC proposes to do with the new CI is to eliminate the two other sources of identity which is a passport and the guarantor system.

The EC last week announced the use of the Ghana Card as the sole requirements for a compilation of new voters register for the 2024 general election.
