Flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, has emphasised the importance of inclusive governance, decentralisation, and effective leadership in achieving Ghana’s democratic milestones.

Speaking at the Presidential encounter at GBC on November 20, 2024, Frimpong stressed that Ghana’s democracy hinges on critical areas such as social justice, accountability, and livelihoods.

“Social justice, probity, and accountability are the mileposts of our democracy; if we don’t achieve these, our wheels get clogged, and progress is hindered,” he stated.

According to Frimpong, trade unions, like the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), require transparency and oversight to prevent financial infractions. He cited the Auditor General’s report, which revealed massive financial irregularities within CLOGSAG.

“If trade unions had a pinhole watch into the administrative and financial machinery of their institutions, most of these infractions would not arise,” he added.

Frimpong also advocated for a policy of “green talents” to create entrepreneurial opportunities for youth and retirees, leveraging Ghana’s agro-based economy and promoting food processing industries. “We need to empower communities through entrepreneurial hubs and job creation,” he emphasised.

The NDP flagbearer cautioned against trivialising community involvement, emphasising its integral role in Ghana’s democracy.

“Decentralisation is key; executive power must devolve to communities through local governance structures,” he stressed.

He pledged to establish an inclusive government if elected president in the December 7 general election.

Frimpong assured, highlighting the importance of accountability and protection for whistleblowers.

“If there was an effective complaints redress system, nobody would dare victimise somebody,” he asserted.
