Voting ended successfully in the Northern Regional Executives elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tamale. In all, 986 out of 1,150 delegates turned out for the elections.
The Chairmanship position was a two horse race between the incumbent regional organiser, Godfred Wumbie and Alhaji Ibrahim Mobilla. Mr. Mobilla pulled 493 from the total votes cast to beat his closest contender Mr. Wumbie who pulled 397 votes.
Other contenders in the chairmanship race include a former Northern Regional Minister and Ambassador to Angola, Moses Bukari Mabengba who managed to pull 56 votes together with three other contenders.
The Vice Chairman position saw Alhaji Rufai Vellim emerging as the victor with 431 votes. Salisu Be-Awuribe took the Secretary position with 482 votes while Ziblim Saaka beat his only contender with 535 votes to get the Deputy Secretary slot.
The remaining positions include Organiser- Abdalla Baba Razak (497). Deputy Organizer-Zakaria Majeed (333 votes), Communication Officer- Abdul Mumin Fusieni (604), Deputy Communication Officer-Malik Sidewaya Yakubu (379), Treasurer-Kasim Bukari Ali (485), Deputy Treasurer -Hajia Sham-una Razak, Zongo Caucus Coordinator- Hajia Jamilatu Amidu.
The elections was supervised by the Regional director of the electoral commission, Benjamin Bano-Bioh. He took the winning team through the oath of office and secrecy.
The Chairman elect, Alhaji Ibrahim Mobilla, on behalf of group, commended delegates for exhibiting maturity in the exercise. He called on all party faithfuls to gear up for election 2020 by wrestling additional seats from the ruling new Patriotic Party.
The Secretary elect, Salisu Be-Awuribe in an interaction with the media, said the party was poised for the next general elections. He said the victory of the part in election 2020 was dependent on the delegates conference.
